The U.S. economy expanded by just 0.6% during the first quarter of 2008 re-affirming expectations for a slow start to the first half of the year.  The release marks the slowest pace of growth since the fourth quarter of 2002.  Within the release household spending was noted as growing at its slowest pace since 2001 due to increasing job losses as well escalating food and fuel prices.  Following the GDP data the U.S. dollar fell 0.7% against the Canadian dollar in particular.
